If you’ve started noticing more gray strands popping up, you might be wondering: should I cover them completely or blend them in? Both are great options—it just depends on your personal style, maintenance preference, and lifestyle. Let’s break it down so you can decide what feels best for you.

What Is Gray Coverage?

Gray coverage is when we use color to cover all of your natural gray, leaving you with an even shade from roots to ends. Think of it as a “reset button” for your color—it hides the gray and gives you a fresh, consistent look.

Gray coverage is perfect if you:

  • Want to completely hide gray strands.

  • Prefer a solid, uniform color.

  • Don’t mind keeping up with regular root touch-ups every 4–6 weeks.

What Is Gray Blending?

Gray blending is a softer approach. Instead of fully covering every strand, we use techniques like highlights, lowlights, or a gloss to blend the gray in with your natural color. This creates dimension and helps your gray grow in more gracefully.

Gray blending is perfect if you:

  • Want a more natural look.

  • Don’t mind seeing some of your gray but want it to look intentional.

  • Prefer lower-maintenance appointments every 8–12 weeks.

Which One Is Right for You?

It all comes down to your personal style and how much time you want to spend in the salon. Some clients love the polished, all-over look of coverage, while others embrace a softer grow-out with blending.

The best part? You don’t have to commit forever—you can always start with blending and switch to coverage later, or the other way around.
